Towards a Spatial City: Exploring Three-Dimensional Urbanism
The primary goal of the Unit 16 program is to develop the concept of the “spatial city” through three-dimensional urbanism, which can articulate new forms of social organization and address the evolving nature of urban reality.

Architecture as a Catalyst for Transformation
We see architecture as a tool for transformation, exploring open processes of layering and juxtaposition that blur boundaries between scales and uses. This approach creates environments that foster encounters, collective living, movement, and the unforeseen—drawing inspiration from the “dynamic labyrinths” of Constant’s New Babylon. The aim is to challenge the ideas of regeneration and resilience, both in their programmatic and urban-architectural contexts.

A Site at the Intersection of Urban Morphologies
The chosen site, located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, is defined by a layering of diverse urban forms: apartment buildings, Haussmannian structures, 1970s towers, and contemporary open blocks, all interspersed. This diversity provides a rich ground for experimenting with contrasting urban strategies, vibrant social dynamics, and varied architectural horizons.
